My mission as a Cinematographer is to take something once so familiar and photograph it in such a way to re-shape the viewers habitual perspective. For me it starts at the collaborative process within the script or in the first meeting with a director. Within this I try and re-live many of my own life experiences, as well as my understanding of Art History, Jazz, and Literature to push forth the collaborative effort.
My artistic endeavors began in Worcester, Massachusetts while attending The College of the Holy Cross, shooting black and white stills as well as student video projects; considering there was no film department. I would say that I am very much a reactionary artist, growing up in the inner-city of Boston while experiencing an education far from where I called home!
Within my artistic mission I don’t just want to make pretty pictures in slow motion. I want to emotionally convey the directors vision exactly how she or he dreamt of, and if the result happens to be a gorgeous visual moment so be it! Yet it’s really about the audience being taken to a once familiar place and experiencing that moment again for the first time. |
